So you've signed up to Go1 and set up your portal through the onboarding wizard but now you want to make some changes to your portal settings. No problem! You can quickly and easily make changes to all of your settings and display options through our 'settings' tools. 

To access the settings information simply click on your name in the top right corner of your screen and then click on the settings option within the dropdown menu.

You are now taken to the Portal Settings page where the General Settings are displayed. There are three sections to your Portal settings, General, Advanced and Billing.

Let's take a closer look at what you can find within each section.

Portal admins can update or edit the name of their portal

Portal admins can specify the welcome message that will appear on the learner dashboard for all of their users

Portal admins can specify their own terms and conditions and privacy policy if required

Portal admins can update or edit the primary and secondary colors for their portal

Portal admins can select which blocks  should appear on the learner dashboard for all of their users

Portal admins can specify whether the "Create new account" form is accessible to anonymous users, meaning if a user can register for a new account themselves, as well as specifying whether the Go1 Marketplace is going to be available to all users on their portal

Portal admins can specify whether all users can add credit card details for self purchases outside of the content provided to them through their portal

Portal admins can add a credit card to be used to pay for the portal subscription

Portal admins can view the agreement with Go1 for the current portal

Welcome to the new Go1 website and course marketplace!

The April release of Go1 is here and includes a number of new features and improvements to make your learning experience better. This includes updates across our payment integration as well as in the display of information on courses prior to users purchasing. You can read about the full range of improvements below.

We have redesigned the course overview page, with more information about the course users are about to enroll or purchase.

If you are charging for courses in Go1, we now forward more details about each payment through to Stripe. This allow you to better see exactly what course and account each payment is for. Also, if you enable the email receipts feature in Stripe, can send payment receipt directly to users on each payment.

We want to ensure that our users are experiencing their training in the fastest, most user friendly and secure environment possible. To make sure this is happening, we have implemented a new feature to notify users if they are currently using an older version of their internet browser that may effect their learning experience.

Users who are using non supported browsers will now be directed to a page containing the following message:

Other browsers may work, but have not been tested and are not supported.

This release also contains a number of major backend improvements. The updates we have made in this release, and will continue to make in upcoming releases will pave the way for a faster, more scalable system for all users. It will also allow us to introduce some new course creation tools that will make building learning content easier and quicker. We will be posting more details on these in the coming weeks.

At Go1 we understand that having navigation tools that are easy to use and don't clutter up your screen make more an awesome user experience. We have already got a great menu system in place, but we have just made some changes that will make accessing different areas within the platform a lot quick and easier, as well as freeing up even more space on your screen!

To make this happen we will shortly be relocating the existing navigation menu that was previously located on the left hand side of the screen to appear at the top of the screen. This change allows users to be able to utilize a larger area of their screen while using the platform which is a major improvement, especially for our users on mobile devices or tablets.

The new navigation bar will appear whenever you are at the top of a screen, however as you start to scroll down the page, it will automatically collapse. If you would like to use the menu mid page, we've got you covered there too. All you need to do to make the navigation bar reappear is click on the button, next to the 'Dashboard' text, and your menu will reappear.

This update will not only free up more screen space, bit it will also allow for users to quickly jump between different areas of the platform such as their courses, the marketplace, and their dashboard. All page content is now set to display centered on the page in a clean and crisp format that is simple to navigate.

There's more space to learn with our new user menu

There are tools out there that let you build websites with simple drag and drop functionality, so why can’t you do the same thing with creating online courses? Now you can with inline editing!

So, how you can create online courses with inline editing?

As technology has developed over the past decade, we have seen a big switch across all areas of content creation that has made producing high quality material a lot quicker and easier to do. Tools are constantly being developed that are based around more visual elements and drag and drop functionality that allow the creator to witness their creation coming to life in real time. One of the areas that this style of technology has really taken off is in website design and development. First we saw the rise of WordPress: With their masses of themes and plugins, they made creating websites easy through the use of easy to use interface. While this was a giant step in the right direction for pushing out web design to the public, users still had to have some basic knowledge of code to be able to produce anything that looked amazing. While WordPress was a great starting point, there was a huge market out there of non-code savvy designers wanting to be able to create their own websites. Enter Squarespace.

Squarespace changed the way that we designed things on the internet forever. Their interface allowed users to use basic drag and drop functionality to build the most professional looking website. No coding necessary. The company exploded onto the scene as web designers all over the world realized that they may soon be out of a job. This was the beginning of the era that has seen creating content on the internet become accessible, no matter your technical skill level. You can now find drag and drop technology used across all aspects of content creation with companies realizing that it is the easiest way to be able to allow their entire market to use a product, without having done a stack of training courses or learning a programming language.

So why hasn’t this filtered down into the course creation and learning technology sector yet?

Inline editing is here. Learning Management System Go1 has been developing a range of new tools to make creating your online courses easier for the non-technical user. Seeing that most users are already familiar with other platforms online or social media, they have adapted a lot of the same creating and editing tools so users can start creating as soon as possible.

One of the most frustrating things when building anything online is jumping between your backend while making changes, and your front end to see how your final product will look. This isn’t a problem with Go1’s inline editing, as you can create and edit all of your content from within your front end meaning what you are seeing, is exactly how it will look to your users.

Images can be simply edited by clicking on a button on the header, and selecting a file, just as the titles can be updated by clicking and typing. Real time updates and display features make setting you your course very quick and easy to do without jumping around between multiple screens and clicking save to see the result of your work.

Adding content to your course has been simplified too! Gone are the days of flicking through pages to find out where you can upload your learning content. With inline editing you can add your SCORM or TinCan Files with the click of a button.

In your learner view you will find a button labeled  “+ ADD”; by clicking on this button you can bring up a menu displaying all of the types of continent that you can add.

Documents (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Just click and add your content. By clicking on any of these options you are then guided through the process required to set up your content, and then it will appear right in front of you on the page you are working from. If you already have your course content created, this means that within a matter of minutes you can now create a new course, and enroll your users. You don’t need to be a highly skilled technology expert; just a few simple clicks around you’re on your way.

This process can save hours of time in course creation and instantly allows the creator to view their work and move on to creating their next courses. As with everything on the Go1 portal, colors and logos can be set to match your company branding so your learners feel at home using the platform.

Change the way you create online courses with inline editing

There are tools out there that let you build websites with simple drag and drop functionality, so why can't you do the same thing with creating online courses? Now you can with Go1 inline editing!

The latest update on the Go1 platform has made creating your own customized courses even easier by allowing administrators and creators to watch their course come to life as they are adding element. Similar to the tools that you are already familiar with on website building platforms like Squarespace, you can now use inline editing to add videos, documents, update text, images and more all within the same display view that your learner will be seeing.

After creating your course in the Administer dashboard, you no longer need to create any further content before clicking on the 'Learn' button and jumping straight into the learner view for your new course.

Once you have gone into your 'My Courses' tab on the left hand side LMS menu and selected your new course, you can then click on 'Review' to view and start adding/editing your content.

We can now see that there is no content in our new course yet. We can begin the editing and adding content by clicking on the 'Edit' button in the top right hand corner of the screen.

We have now enabled all of the editing featured on the page. To start we can click in the title area and begin entering a title and description for our course. We can even change the cover image for our course by clicking the area just below the header.

Below our header there is a box called '+ADD', this is where new content blocks can be added to the course.

Our first content option is text. In this block we can enter a title for the content we are about to add by simply clicking in the blank area at the top of the text box. Below that we can enter any text that we would like to include in this section as a part of the course.

The next item that we can add to our course is a document. We can still add a title and description of the document that we are adding, exactly the same way as mentioned above, but then we also have the ability to click the button below and upload a document. This could be a word doc, excel, powerpoint, etc. Once uploaded the doc will display in your course.

Our last item to add is video. Again we can add our title and description as per the text box mentioned above, but we can then click upload video to add a video resource to the course.

Any of the above blocks can be rearranged to be in your order of preference, and you can delete any blocks that you no long want to use by simply clicking on the trash can in the top right hand corner of each block.

With the addition of these tools creating and editing courses just got a whole lot easier for everyone!

Inline editing makes creating courses easier than ever!

We have decided to trial a new release schedule. We will now we aiming for shorter release cycles every two weeks. This will enable us to get suggested improvements and updates out to users as well as release things in smaller changes.

As part of the blended learner experience in Go1, scheduled courses allow you to run a course as an event that has a specific date and location. To allow user to better find and enroll in the correct scheduled courses we have enhanced the filtering capabilities in this part of the system so users can now filter courses by start and end date as well as their location.

Project groups is a feature that allows for discussions between learners and course facilitators. Through group discussions, learners can ask questions and get help on course material. It also provides another format for administrators to assess learners understanding of the material.

In this release we added additions features to improve the ability to search and find groups as well as provide further moderation tools for administrations to manage groups.

One of the most important things at Go1 is making sure that everyone who uses our platform has an amazing learning experience. We are often asked what everything will look and feel like when a new learner logs into the system, so we have prepared a video to walk you through a Student experience.

After completing this walkthrough, you will be able to see what a new learner on your system will experience while using Go1.

Navigate to your organizations portal. Keep in mind the look and feel of the login page may depend on the organization. At bottom of the form you can “create an account”, Just fill in your basic details, agree to the terms of use and privacy policy, pass the captcha and click "Sign Up". We will then send out a welcome email to the email address specified with a one-time login link, from which you can navigate into the learning portal you have just signed up for.

It will prompt you to create a password for the system and then you are good to go.

In the Dashboard you will start off with a welcome message from the organization, and if you are not yet enrolled in any courses you have the choice to Browse the Marketplace courses. After you have enrolled into some courses, your five most recent courses will also be displayed on your dashboard, for quick access.

The color theme, banner images, welcome text are all dependent to your organization's portal, as well as whether or not the invite users and if the marketplace courses are enabled or not.

Along the left hand side menu we have a few different options to choose from. This is our Dashboard, we also have 'My Courses' and 'Company courses'. Here it shows all the courses that the organization has created for me to be able to enroll into.

Lastly we have the 'Marketplace'. A collection of compliance and training courses made available by other organizations, available for anyone to enroll into.

In the top right of our view, we can click our name to open up a drop down menu. By clicking 'Account' you will see that you are able to change the name and password details of your account. The email, as it is the reference for the account is not changeable. After you hit 'submit' a message will appear notifying us our details have been updated.

Let’s go back to the dashboard as if we were a new user just logged in. We can then navigate to the available Company Courses, and enrol into one of them. I need to do the first aid course. Clicking on it will enroll me into the course, which will mean this course will be populated in the “My Courses” page and also my dashboard.

On the course page you can see the course image as a banner across the top, you can click to reveal the course description and you can also see a list of the modules that the course comprises of. Each of these modules has a description and a collection of materials that are allocated to them. You can also view all workshops available for the course, as well as any assignments that must be uploaded along the right hand side.

Let's begin by clicking "Continue" on module 1. Inside a module, we're presented with a banner header of the module image, the module title and description. The pathway of each module is a clean cut linear progression. In the top left we can click 'Resources' to open a drop down of all resources in this module. Clicking on a resource will then take you directly to this material. You can also scroll to view other resources in the the module.

Go1 supports the uploading of PDF documents along with many other file types such as power point, word and excel, all of which are converted to HTML5, allowing them to be viewed within any browser on any device. Within each of these documents, you can click the fullscreen button. Here you can highlight text, insert further text, and add comments to markup the document however you wish. You can then navigate through the document by clicking the buttons or also by using your mouse to scroll.

At the bottom of your screen you will notice a button, clicking this, we can seamlessly progress to the next resource.

We can finish off this module by taking a quiz. We can see the title, any description or instruction, and then a button to start our quiz assessment. Quizzes can be made up of a number of question types such as Multiple Choice, True/False, matching, short answer and long answer questions. Depending on how the quiz is created, you may receive instant feedback. You'll also receive results on how your attempt went at the end, which can be specified by the admin or can be generated by the system automatically.

You will see at the bottom, there is an image and description of the next module. Click the Next Module button to proceed straight to the next module in the course.

A couple of other resource types the system can utilize are SCORM and TinCan, for interactive learning. In the video above you can see an interactive version of a First Aid SCORM file that can be added as another form of assessment in your modules.

Along the right hand side you'll see a list of any available workshops you can enroll in.  Sometimes you may have to attend all workshops or you may just have to attend one of the available options. This section details which modules workshop are required, what date and times they are happening, and what location they are held. Clicking on the enrol button will allow the admin to know which workshop you are going to be attending.

There is also the functionality to upload assignments. You can simply click to open up the assignment, and it will show you the requirements for the task as well as a drag and drop box for your file, and a notes section if you want to add any further information. Once you have clicked to upload the document it will be sent to your tutor to mark.

You'll notice that once you've completed all your resources and assessments inside a module, it's status on the course view will update from In Progress to Completed.

Once you have completed all requirements for the course, depending on your organization's course setup, you may be allowed to download a certificate to show that you have completed everything required for the qualification.

You can create an account on a portal, or a user account may be created for you. You'll receive a welcome email and can click the one-time login link inside. You'll then be logged into the system to set your own password.

Once in the system you can enroll in a course from 'Company Courses', once enrolled you'll then see that course on your dashboard or in 'My Courses'.

You can access the system and continue your courses from anywhere you have a web browser and an internet connection. You can use any browser and any device.

If you forget your password, just click the Forgot Password link on the sign in page, input your email and you'll be sent a one-time login link to access the your system and set a new password.

Another big month of product updates and improvements in October. We thought we would share a few of the larger changes which we think you will enjoy as part of this new release.

We have revamped the user experience for learners. The navigation and progression for users through a course is now more streamlined and enjoyable. We believe that when a user sits down to learn about a topic they should be focused on that task, so we have designed the experience to minimise distractions and maximised the learning.

We have been working with a number of our clients to develop out this features. From one portal you can share courses with other Go1 learning portals allow custom learning experiences for different users while managing the courses in one place. This is useful when you need to deliver training to a mixture of internal and external users or just different departments in your business.

We have added support for embedding Vimeo videos into your courses. This is in addition to the existing support for YouTube and custom uploaded mp4 files. Using the private video features in Vimeo you can have your video content streamed from one the best video hosting platforms while still have the ability to control access to your content. This also means that if you already have video content in Vimeo it is every easier to build your courses.

Providing custom certificates has been updated this release to provide more flexibility. You can use either PDF or DOCX files to generate a template for your courses. Each course can have a custom templates or you can share the one template between courses. You can map any tokens you have included in your certificate templates to the data in Go1. Please see our previous blog post on how to upload and manage certificates.

The process of adding and managing the content in your courses and modules has been streamlined in the administration interface. First select the resource type from the dropdown, you can select from video, document, Scorm, Tincan (xAPI) or Quiz. Once added you can quickly and easily re-order these items.

The list of updates doesn’t stop here, we are constantly reviewing each and every features in Go1 and our full change log for the month of October includes over 150 enhancements. Many of these are small improvements
