Course Overview

This is the final module in a 3 part course on working to provide a safe environment for children. It provides the specifics of the law as it relates to mandatory reporting requirements on a state by state basis. It uses case based scenarios to facilitate learning.

Target Audience

Nurses midwives, managers and all other mandatory reporters.

Learning Objectives

This course will provide learners with the information required to know when and how to make a mandatory report of suspected child abuse. It uses case based scenarios to reinforce learning and to provide practical guidance.

At the end of this course participants will:

• Understand how mandatory reporting fits in to an overall strategy to help protect children
• Be able to answer frequently asked questions about mandatory reporting 
• Be able to define ‘abuse’ as it relates to children
• Know when a mandatory report is required
• Understand what the meaning of ‘reasonable grounds’ for suspecting child abuse means in their state or territory
• Know how to make a mandatory report

All health care providers have a duty to ensure that employees understand how to provide a safe environment for children, how to identify children who may be vulnerable, and when and how to make a report about a child.

This course meets training requirements for anyone required to undertake training in child protection and mandatory reporting. It covers laws from every state and territory with participants able to select their jurisdiction for laws and case based scenarios.
