XBRL has truly revolutionized business financial reporting around the globe. XBRL offers an opportunity for IT professionals to closely align with their business colleagues, working jointly to solve reporting problems and issues well before financial reports are filed with government entities. This three-part WatchIT "Core Technologies" series features educator and XBRL expert Thomas Tribunella. Mr. Tribunella is a Certified Public Accountant and an associate professor at the State University of New York's Oswego campus. This first program in the series provides an overview of XBRL and discusses its impact on IT. Part 2 will examine XBRL taxonomy building and coding, and part 3 explores using XBRL with spreadsheets and other systems.
