Equity Index Futures: Basics

Equity index future contracts are a hugely popular derivative, and are traded on exchanges around the world. We explain at the basics of equity index futures, and look at some of the more popular contracts, such as the S&P 500 and FTSE 100 contracts. We outline how they are bought and sold using two examples, and then run through some of the benefits that can be obtained by trading equity index futures.
