Upon completion of the program, employees should understand the importance of building trust with the media before an incident occurs; know the duties and responsibilities of a Public Information Officer (PIO); know the early steps that need to be taken in an emergency situation to control the media's access to the area; and understand the potential consequences of making unauthorized statements to the media.
