Catch up phonics - strategies for older students

Course Overview

The focus is on supporting older students (Key Stage 2 and beyond) who may have an incomplete grasp of synthetic phonics. These students typically "talk" the jargon language of a subject accurately and appropriately but often struggle to spell more complex, polysyllabic words. This webinar will harness the power of syllables and demonstrate how the concept of "advanced phonics" is important for older students, together with strategies for extending phonological awareness through challenging non-word activities. New research into effective approaches for teaching sight words will also be discussed.
