Author content using Go1 tools: Create a standalone content item

You should create a standalone learning object when your content is just one single file, for example just one video on its own. You can create a standalone document, interactive, video, link, audio or text item.

Creating the content item within your Go1 Portal

1. Log in to your Go1 portal using your administrator email and password
2. Click ‘My Teaching’ at the top of the page
3. Select the ‘Resources’ tab
4. Click ‘Create’ and select the type of learning object you would like to create from the drop-down menu.

null

Once you select the item type, you will be taken to the LO (learning object) editor. (Note that for ‘Text’ type learning objects, there will first be a pop up where you can fill in the title, description and image before you click ‘Create’).

Let’s work through the fields in the editor from the top down.

Image

There are two ways to upload a thumbnail image:

  1. Click the camera icon and select the image using the file explorer, or
  2. Drag and drop an image into the section

Please note that your image will appear zoomed in and cropped when in the LO Editor. Once you’ve finished creating your item, you can see how the image will appear by looking at your content on the Explore page. We recommend using a 3:2 aspect ratio image that would also look good if cropped to a square 1:1.

Use the trash can and camera icons to remove or replace an existing image.

Title

Your learning object will not save until it has a title.

Summary

Click the ‘Summary’ button located just under the title field to add a short overview of your learning object which will appear when it is shared socially. There is a 120 character limit for this.

Description

This section should include a paragraph or two explaining what your content is all about. You may also like to include additional information such as:

  • Target Audience
  • Prerequisites
  • Business Outcomes
  • Compliance / Accreditation

You can type directly or paste copied text into the description field. Text can be formatted using the editing bar at the bottom of this field. Please do not include learning outcomes in the description field, this should be added in the below Learning Outcomes field.

Learning Outcomes

Learning outcomes are essential to helping customers decide which content meets their needs. Add each learning outcome in a separate field. There are two fields by default, and you can add up to 10 by clicking “Add more”.

Adding Content

The next section is where you can upload your content. Either drag and drop your files in, or click ‘Choose a file’ to open file explorer. Supported file types and limits can be found here.

- For videos: you can upload a file or insert a YouTube or Vimeo link (ensuring it has http:// or https:// at the beginning). Once you have uploaded your file, a checkbox will appear which allows you to force users to watch to the end without skipping.

- For Links: you will see an option for ‘integration’, this option should only be selected if you are building an authenticated deep link leveraging the Go1 API (see Author content via API Integration). Additionally, you will be required to select an option for ‘Embed Content’. This decides how your link will be launched (new tab vs embedded into the Go1 player). It is highly recommended to select the ‘Force content to be embedded into the player’ option unless this is not possible.

Duration

Enter your content duration in days, hours, and/or minutes. Anything over 60 minutes will automatically convert to the equivalent number of hours and minutes.

For documents and text items, we recommend a duration of approximately 200 words per minute or 2 minutes per page.

Price

Price is not necessary for content that is only going to the Go1 Premium offering.

For content going to the GO1 Marketplace, enter the amount here and set the currency type from the drop-down menu.

  • For portals in Australia: Upon entering the price, you will be able to check the ‘Include Tax’ box. Once this box is checked, you will be able to enter the GST amount, and check the ‘Include Tax in displayed price’ box dependent on your preference.

Mobile Optimised

For interactive and link learning objects only: use this checkbox to indicate whether your content is optimised for both iOS and Android mobile devices.

WCAG 2.0 AA Compliant

For interactive and link learning objects only: use this checkbox to indicate whether your content meets the WCAG 2.0 AA compliance requirements.

Assessable

For interactive and link learning objects only: use this checkbox to indicate whether your content contains any assessment items (e.g. quizzes, knowledge checks) where the learner receives a score or feedback.

Language

The default language is English. Click to open the language selector - scroll to find the language, or type into the search bar.

Topics

Topics help learners find the right content.

Click to add, then select from one of the 5 initial topic choices. You will then see a list of sub-topics to choose from. Select one, or click the X next to your chosen topic to go back.

You will need to choose at least 2 topics but may see an option for a third. Choose the third topic or click ‘Skip’ if none are relevant. Once you have chosen, the pop up will disappear.

Level

Use the drop-down to select the level of knowledge the content is aimed at (either Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, or Suitable for everyone).

Tags

Tags are optional and can help people search and find your content. Type or paste in tags one by one, and press ‘enter’ or click on the ‘Create new tag’ dialogue that appears.

You can remove tags by clicking the x on each one.

Authors

You will be set as the content author by default. If you would like to add another portal administrator as an author, start typing their name or email address and select them from the list.

Saving, publishing and sharing your content

As soon as you add a title to your learning object, it will automatically save. Any new changes are automatically saved as you go.

You can publish and share your content depending on your needs:

I don’t want anyone to see the content just yet
Once your latest changes are saved, click the X in the top left to exit the editor without publishing your item.

I only want to share my content with learners in my portal
Click ‘Publish’ in the top right to allow learners from your portal to see and enrol in your content.

I want to share my content to the Go1 Premium library
Click ‘Visibility and access’ in the top right, then click ‘Add’ next to Premium. After closing the Visibility and Access pop up, click ‘Publish’. Your content will be reviewed by our team before it is launched live. If you are a newly signed partner and this is your first batch of content, please email your Content Partner Success Manager to inform them that you are ready to launch your content.

I want to share my content to the Go1 Marketplace
The Go1 Marketplace allows customers without access to Premium to purchase individual courses. You may share content here for free, or include a price. While editing the learning object, click ‘Visibility and access’ in the top right, then click ‘Add’ next to Marketplace. After closing the Visibility and Access pop up, click ‘Publish’. Your content will be reviewed by our team before it is launched live.

I want to share my content with a selected group of customers only
To share your content with a select group of customers according to your agreement with Go1, email support@go1.com with the learning object names to let them know you have new content ready to share.

Go1 Premium & Marketplace

Before content is published to the Premium or Marketplace libraries, our team will review it to ensure it meets our content standards, including:

  • The content launches and plays without errors
  • The minimum mandatory metadata has been supplied:
    - Image
    - Title
    - Description
    - Learning outcomes
    - Duration
    - Topics
    - Level

For content where the metadata fields of mobile optimised, assessable and WCAG 2.0 AA compliant are applicable:

The value for these is set as “unsure” by default. We strongly recommend filling in this field to enable learners to find the content that meets their needs.

Edit your content

To edit a learning object after you have created it;

1. Find the item in the ‘Resources’ section on your ‘My Teaching’ page (or if you have too many items, search by title using the search bar at the top of the page)

2. Click the 3 dots on the right and select ‘Edit’

null

3. In the editor, click the X to the right of the file name (under the description field) to remove the old file, then add the new file as usual.
