Technical analysis tries to predict future market price movements by studying historical price action. There are many practitioners around the world who use technical analysis for a wide range of financial purposes. We discuss the basics of technical analysis, how it has evolved over the years, and contrast it with fundamental analysis. We then give brief overview of some of the more popular technical analysis techniques such as, support and resistance lines, moving averages, Elliott Wave Theory, volume and open interest, and oscillators.
