When you hear the word “micromanager,” what is the image that immediately springs to mind? For most people, it’s the figure of a forlorn employee sitting at his or her desk as an overbearing supervisor behind them leans over the employee’s shoulder watchingthem work intently. A favorite cartoon panel of mine depicts this image as the micromanager sternly growling into his anxious subordinate’s ear, “Jenkins … there’s no hyphen in the word, ’micromanager’!”
