Course Overview

Excursions can enrich children’s learning and can contribute to the family daycare educational program through the active participation of the children. Children benefit from excursions that provide them with opportunities to experience a broad range of environments including their local community. In this module you’ll learn about the legal requirements you must meet when organising an excursion. You’ll work through the three main steps in organising an excursion – choosing a location carrying out a risk assessment and gaining written permission from parents prior to the excursion. You’ll be given some tips for teaching children some simple pedestrian and car safety rules in preparation for the excursion. Finally you’ll hear why it’s important to carry out another risk assessment when you arrive at the location of the excursion.

Target Audience

This course is suitable for family day care (FDC) educators who are currently studying for their CIII or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and support or who are seeking professional development.

The course is also suitable for larger organisations wanting to provide holistic professional development for staff members.
