How Roll’d is building a workforce of the future
Founded in 2012, Roll'd is a Vietnamese fast food chain who bring the streets of Vietnam to customers with flavoursome food made fresh daily.
At every Roll'd store, customers experience the very same family essence and Vietnamese-inspired fare we know and love, with a twist for modern Australia.
As they enter into a new chapter of business growth, Roll'd has chosen Go1 to help them to provide more professional development opportunities for their staff and accelerate their growth journey as they set their sights on international expansion.
Watch them talk about their story here:
With around 2000 staff across 90 geographical sites, one of the main challenges for Roll’d was training for quality and consistency - not only in their food but also in customer service.
Prior to choosing Go1, Roll’d‘s training was all computer-based where staff had to physically sit in front of a computer to complete their training. Not only was this time consuming, but given their diverse workforce, this option presented a lot of barriers for consumption.
Roll’d CEO and co-founder, Bao Hoang, said trying to train all staff members has proven to be a challenge over the years.
With rapid expansion in their sights, Roll’d knew they needed a modern and scalable solution to enable them to show consistency with their training standards, as well as deliver learning in a way that would suit the needs of their growing and diverse workforce.
“When we came across Go1 we were immediately attracted by how easy it was to use,” Mr Hoang said.
“One of the key things we found appealing was that Go1 is cloud based, meaning courses can be accessed from anywhere, anytime and on any device.
“Giving staff the opportunity to gain training on the job is very beneficial to Roll’d as a business but it’s not just about us.
“Training is great for their personal development, and we’re pleased to have found a partner in Go1 who takes care of that aspect for all employees,” Mr Hoang said.
Mr Hoang described the partnership with Go1 as “future-proofing its workforce” who are between 18 and 25 years old.
“A majority of staff in the business are young and we want them to be with us in the next 10 to 20 years.
“We want to use Go1 to grow from a team member to store manager and CEO one day.
“Having a robust and customisable platform like Go1 that we can personalise allows us to prepare for the workforce of the future and ready ourselves for jobs that don’t exist today,” Mr Hoang said.
The agreement will cover 83 Roll’d locations which serve Vietnamese hawker-style food. Around 1500 employees and franchisees will benefit from the Go1-powered Roll’d University – online and mobile app - which provides open learning in a range of areas aimed at skills improvement.
They will be able to access 70,000 pieces of learning content, including Roll’d-specific knowledge (skills aimed specifically at franchisees), industry-specific courses (such as compliance training) and soft skills learning items (eg communication, sales and leadership skills).
With Go1, learners now have the ability to learn anywhere, at any time, on a device that suits them.
While Roll'd have their compliance pieces in place, they are excited to be able to provide the team with a range of skills they can take on to university or other employment in the future.
Go1 will introduce consistency in training standards at Roll’d as they look to scale internationally in future, according to Roll’d national operation manager Kelly Tracey.
“Being able to have everyone, regardless of whether they are in Australia or overseas have the same level of quality training is going to be really key to protect our brand,” says Kelly.
“Go1 helped us create Roll’d University that provides an ideal opportunity for Roll’d to establish itself as a leader in an industry when it comes to investing in professional development of its franchisees, employees and also support offices.
“Everyone can focus on increasing their skill sets, from specific knowledge to broader soft skills, anytime and anywhere,” Roll’d people and culture manager Kiking Rumbee said.
Go1 co-founder Vu Tran said being able to power the current and future workforce at Roll’d was an honour.
“Since its inception in 2012, Roll’d has rapidly grown to become one of the fastest growing food brands in the country.
“As Roll’d looks to expand internationally, we’re so proud to be by their side every step of the way,” Mr Tran said.
With their very forward-thinking approach to training, it is clear Roll’d has growth on their mind. With their value of kinship, where each member if the Roll’d team is like family, Roll’d is making the obvious leaps forward in ensuring their staff are provided with opportunities and support.
We’d like to thank the Roll’d team for taking the time to speak to us and look forward to hearing more about their journey with Go1, as their learning programme continues to grow.
